Ep. 55 – Brian D. Evans – Founder and CEO of Influencive

Brian D. Evans – Founder and CEO of Influencive; BDE Ventures; Driving Online Traffic; Scaling Networks; Giving Away Value; Success Mindset

Segment 1: (Length :04:00) – General Updates; Introduction to Brian Evans and his journey as a an entrepreneur; School as a struggle; Learning to scale with the Internet; BDE Ventures.

Brian’s finer points:

School was my struggle. The system failed me

“For example, in the first grade they made me write with my right hand even though I was left handed. I failed every test. I couldn’t color inside the lines. I was not taking to the system. They thought something was wrong with me.”

“What that did was, is allow me to develop my entrepreneurial mindset. I had to figure out everything myself because the teaching system didn’t work for me. I had to develop that mindset to just get by.”

“I went from being a very outgoing kid to being extremely internal. Like, I saw the world differently as a young kid. Coupled with the struggle in school and already looking at things differently and figuring things out for myself, I was on this different level of seeing things.”

“I never had a traditional childhood of what people are used to doing. I was a really deep thinker. I was always trying to figure everything out. How do I figure out how the world, how the universe works.”

“As I got back to reality and time went on, I was like, ‘okay, now I need to make some money and do business. I used that mindset to attach to whatever I was doing. When the Internet came out, I was so fascinated. How does this thing work. I wanted to figure out everything I could possibly figure out about it.”

“BDE Ventures is my marketing company. It’s been around for a long time. It’s been called different things in the past. BDE Ventures is my main company and I work with a lot of different companies’ apps, selling products online, build websites, etc. Basically what I do there is drive traffic.”

“I started out as a media buyer buying traffic and figuring out how to sell things online. The whole psychology of it. How do you take things from one place and get them to another place to buy something.”

“BDE Ventures made the Inc. 500 List. We have a lot of different clients.”

Segment 2: (Length :04:00) – Talking with Brian Evans; How he learned to drive traffic; Using data; Growing Influencive.com

Brian’s finer points:

It was 100% trial and error. It was the school of hard knocks for me.

“To me, how it all works is I’m very data focused. It is really all about data. It’s very mathematical and scientific thing. A lot of people think it’s a bunch of guess work and you do have to have a bit of creativity and guess work to get started. You need to start somewhere.”

“You can see what’s working and what’s not working.”

It's one of those things where you can just start. As long as you have a halfway decent strategy, it doesn't matter how bad you fail and you will probably fail in the first go. Even I fail the first time every time I set up an app. You can't have an ego about it.

“You’re buying data to see what did and didn’t work. What did I learn from the ones that did work.”

“You look at a platform like Facebook and what’s happened is that they are so algorithm focused. Just the other day they made an update . . . this opens up an opportunity. They said they are going to devalue a sensationalized headline that does not deliver what it promises to a reader. So I take a look at all these different things . . . from the opposite perspective.”

“We’ll fully take advantage of the algorithm. Here’s the thing, from what I’ve done with social media, it’s the same thing as buying media. We do paid ads as well . . . but you still can get a lot of traffic if you’re able to use the algorithm to your advantage.”

“We use a lot of different methods to get organic traffic from a lot of mediums.”

“Really, what Influencive is . . . there’s a lot of people out there that just have a different view on these types of things (topics). I see a lot of publications out there that cater to a very traditional audience and I wanted to provide a different experience. So, that’s how Influencive started. A lot of unconventional people writing on there; a lot of Millennials; a lot of Influencers.”

Segment 3: (Length :04:00) – The power of networks; Giving away value; Success Mindset

Brian’s finer points:

“Building an audience and a network is very similar. One of the angel techniques of building an audience is association. So association is happening right now. I have an audience, you guys have an audience. If anyone on any capacity resonates with anything we’re saying across audiences, then they’re going to associate with the other audience as well.”

“I have the inevitability of success mindset. I live by this.”

“For example, people say, ‘If my company is successful, I’m going to have a great life.’ or ‘When I’m famous or successful,’ that’s conditional. I don’t think people realize how deep that goes. I’m not saying you should be an ego maniac, but just look at how you use language.”

“Even energy. You see people with a big frown on their face or they’ll be sitting there with their head in their hands and have a depressed look on their face, and they don’t know what’s wrong.”

“How we use language; how we carry ourselves. It’s such a powerful thing.”

“In my life, using the right language, just try it; for a day, two days; for an hour . . . it really affects you. It really boosts you up.”

Segment 4: (Length :03:00) – Hustler Thought of the Day:

Realize deeply that the present moment is all you ever have. - Eckhart Tolle
