GENERAL NOTES:
Raquel Tavares – Founder & CEO of Fourth & Heart
Raquel Tavares is the Founder and CEO of the popular LA-based ghee company, Fourth & Heart.
Ghee has become very popular in the last few years for its health benefits, as well as for its many practical benefits such as cooking with high heat and shelf stability.
With Raquel at the helm, Fourth & Heart was the very first company to launch flavored ghee products on retail shelves and they are now the second largest ghee company in the nation.
Their marketing, brand and market size are driving awareness to the ingredient itself (30% market share) and in just 2.5 years her company has gone from $350K in revenue to $10M in revenue last year.
Raquel was born in Brazil and immigrated to California as a young child. She grew up surrounded by very ambitious women who ignited her entrepreneurial spirit and showed her how pursuing your passion can fuel your soul.
Four years ago, Raquel left her high-tech career to care for her young children, but she yearned to make a difference doing something she was truly passionate about.
Her Brazilian grandparents were natural entrepreneurs and a huge inspiration to Raquel. After her grandfather passed, her grandmother began to make cookies and cakes in her kitchen and called them Nonna’s Delicias.
When Raquel would visit, she would help her in the kitchen to make little cookies all cut by hand, and they would drive to the store together to drop off orders. When her grandmother passed, Raquel was left a humble sum and wanted to use that money in her honor towards something that would not only fulfill a need, but would be something she could stand behind and do well.
Raquel’s mother was an Ayurvedic Practitioner and she grew up making ghee in her home kitchen, which is how Raquel decided to bring this obvious pantry staple to the masses and start Fourth & Heart.
