Ep. 16 – Margarita McKibben – Fashion & Fitness Entrepreneur – A No Isn’t a No, It’s a Not Yet.

Margarita McKibben – Fashion & Fitness Entrepreneur – Fitness Model & Competitive Athlete in the WBFF; Co-Founder of Haute Athletics; Emphasis on Personal Brand in 2016 – MargaritaMcKibben.com.

Segment 1: (Length :03:00) – General Updates; Introduction to Margarita McKibben; Intro her; Introduction to being a fitness model, competitive athlete and entrepreneur.

“Haute Athletics, it was something that I was the visionary for and it actually started out as a blog because I was super passionate about with fitness, fashion and health. I was still working full time in advertising and I just needed an outlet to express myself.”

“Focusing on myself as a brand, which is different because I was always behind other people’s brands so to develop myself as a brand takes getting used to but super fun so far and some exciting stuff on it’s way.”

Segment 2: (Length :05:00) – Talking with Margarita; What she’s doing with her personal brand in 2016; Focusing more on a lot of training and a disciplined regimine; Keeping an online training program; Launching an eBook; Teaming up with some folks in fashion who will be donating some of the proceeds to charity causes around diabetes.

“I think that there’s always a greater cause and I want to give back.”

“Along the way when I was creating Haute Athletics, everyone was telling me I was super crazy to be staying up late till 5am and writing shows and I didn’t listen to anyone so I did it anyway. So I ended up combining forces and creating a show that made it all the way up to VH1 so who knows, but regardless of what happens, it led me to so many opportunities.”

Segment 3: (Length :04:00) – Dealing with obstacles; Applying a regimine to all aspects of life.

“No matter what happened in our lives or how many times we had to move, dance was always this outlet that transcended me from the really crazy stuff that was happening. I had a pretty good childhood but there was some sadness and some loss so dance taught me to attack everything in the same way.”

“You can’t be late, you have to be prepared, you have to show up and you have to practice. You have to practice beyond the classroom.”

“You have to act like your life depends on it because it kind of does.”

Segment 4: (Length :03:00) – Experiences with Failure;

“I failed a lot in my life. So much that I don’t even really see it as failure anymore. It’s just something that happens. I tried, I threw something on the wall, it fell down, it broke . . . you just pick it up and put it together or figure out a different way.”

“You won’t know your limitations until you try . . . the worst thing that can happen is that you’re going to drop it, and that’s the same way you have to handle business and everything in life. Relationships, friendships. You take a chance and put yourself out there. You do the best you can and put your heart into it. It will either work out or not. Then you just move on.”

Segment 5: (Length :03:00) – Balancing life and work; Be creative and getting things done; Personal Mantra – “A no isn’t a no, it’s a not now.”

“You juggle things and multi-task and crazy stuff happens. Challenges happen and it throws you off, but at the end of the day, you just get the work done whether you have to stay up late or wake up the next morning early.”

“Creatives can be given a schedule and deadlines, but they have this sort of different way of going about things. As long as you have that checklist and it’s realistic and you check it off, then that’s what your regimine should be.”

“Being a perfectionist and being so structured can make you not flexible and know how to pivot.”

“When entrepreneurs hear no, they almost have a stubbornness where they don’t even hear it. They hear it, but it doesn’t even phase them. They’re stubborn and relentless and they don’t hear that ‘no’.”

“Always remember that when you get a no, sometimes they’re just not the right fit for you.”

Segment 6: (Length :03:00) – Hustler Thought of the Day:

Success follows struggle. It follows action and it’s relentless.

What this means to Margarita:

“Just know what your outcome is. The more you know and the more crystal clear you’re outcome is, then if the first approach doesn’t work, then you take another approach.”

“You have to just believe in what you stand for, who you are and the voice you’re trying to express.”

“Today we live in a connection economy where you can create a brand out of nothing. You don’t even have to believe in the name. Just as long as you believe in the mission. Just know your outcome and don’t detour.”
